This has been an eventful week in Columbia. Many of you have been keeping track of the ongoing battle against the SC Freedom caucus that was launched by the Moderates in the Republican Caucus back in 2022. Last year they spent millions of dollars to defeat members of the Freedom Caucus but failed to unseat a single one of our members. In fact, two of those leading Moderates wound up losing their seats back in June instead.
From last summer until the beginning of session, I and the other members of SCFC leadership have offered several olive branches to House Leadership in the hopes that we can put the fighting away and work together to accomplish the conservative priorities that SC voters want. Unfortuntely, ever offer was rejected. In fact, they made the Loyalty Oath in the Caucus Rules even worse. So I assumed we’d be back to what was happening last session: occasional texts or mail into our district full of half-baked half-truths meant to decieve voters about legislation at the statehouse.
I was wrong. Very wrong.
Sadly, they’ve taken things to a new low. Rather than half-truths about policy, they now claiming that that those of us that voted against an unconstitutional bill about social media (click here for info on that) did so to protect child abusers and criminals. They’ve become completely unhinged. Here’s a picture of they outrageous lie that was sent out:
I have two small children, I was a high school teacher, and have taught kids at church for decades. This latest slander was beyond any standard of decency.
When I confronted both the Speaker of the House and the Majority Leader last Thursday confirmed that the Majority Leader, Davey Hiott, personally approved the lying text before it was lobbed against us. Republican majority leader continues to coordinate slander of the most conservative Republican members.
Why do they persist in this? It’s because they’re feeling the heat. For the first time in recent memory, there are principled conservatives that are sticking together and doing what’s right, no matter the slander, no matter the lies, no matter the cost. And there is a cost. Despite that, I won’t back down and likely will stay in hot water with House Leadership. I’m grateful to represent the people of SC House District 117!
If you think what the Majority Leader and his moderate cronies are doing is wrong then you can support my fight in Columbia! Tomorrow is my 36th birthday! Would you consider contributing $360 or even $36 to my re-election campaign via this secure link?
Can you tell me more about your high school teaching ? Also spending public money on vouchers has already been deemed unconstitutional twice. Which parts of the state constitution do you like? Why not go through the process of changing it instead of continuously trampling it??
